Risk Management Programs

Brookdale Fruit Farm

Frank Whittemore speaks about the diverse 350 acre Hardy family farm. He says the biggest risk factor in farming is, "weather, weather, weather." He also says that crop insurance is a "necessary part of the business," citing the hail storm of a few years ago as a good example.

Sixty percent of the farm is in tree fruit (primarily apples and peaches) and small fruit. The remaining 40 percent includes corn, tomatoes and other vegetables.
