Somersworth (2003)
 

The Somersworth NROC program started with the Dealing with Growth in Somersworth presentation in June, 2003. Over the course of the next few months, Somersworth-NROC participants identified goals, and formed Action Groups to develop and implement specific actions to achieve their natural resources protection goals. These activities are described below.

 
  Action Groups:
 
  • Water Quality Monitoring
  • Land Conservation and Natural Resources Inventory
  Action Group Activities:
  Water Quality Monitoring
 
  • Worked with the Land Conservation action group to include a strong water resources component in the natural resources inventory.

  • Developed and implemented a summer surface water quality monitoring program using high school student volunteers.

 
  Land Conservation and Natural Resources Inventory
 
  • Conducted a natural resources inventory for use with the water quality monitoring program, and as a basis for setting goals and priorities for land conservation. The group contracted with Strafford Regional Planning Commission to produce the GIS maps needed for the inventory.

  • Organized and hosted the workshop, Land Conservation Options, presented by NROC staff. The workshop was followed up with a meeting with the conservation commission to discuss next steps for a land conservation program.

  • Developed an education and outreach program for land conservation and maintaining water quality

 
  NROC Community Implementation Project Grant Funds
 

Received an NROC grant funded by the NH Coastal Program for Land Conservation and Water Quality Monitoring in Somersworth
