Treatment One

Regular mowing

A soil test was done for treatment two and it was found that the soil has a pH of 5.8 (lawns should be about 6.0-6.5) and the potassium is low.

All applications were watered with rain showers that occurred for three days after the applications were made. Rain equaled about 1.5 inches over 3 days.

Initial observations of this lawn are that there is that it is good shape with dense grass and few weeds. The most prominent weed was ground ivy and veronica with each covering about 3-5% of each plot. There is a dip in the lawn where the soil seems to have been dug out a while ago. That dip has more weeds than the rest of the lawn.

* The first application of treatments was made on 4-25-08. At this time, the lime and potassium according to soil tests should have been put down on the plots for treatment 2, however, the soil tests results had not arrived yet, so another application was made on 5-15-08.

After the 7-3-08 applications, there was a period of very heavy rain that fell regularly for 3 weeks. No response to the fertilizer or the herbicide was seen.
