DEBORAH CHEEVER
Extension Educator, 4-H Youth Development

Deborah Cheever  recruits, trains and supports the nearly 300 volunteers who work with Merrimack County 4-H youth, providing them with research-based curriculum, and an understanding of how to create positive youth development environments.

Debbie provides leadership in the subject matter areas of family and consumer sciences, youth leadership, citizenship and community service. Nancy takes the lead in the areas of plant and animal science and natural resources.

Debbie also works closely with the county 4-H Advisory Council, the county 4-H Foundation and other groups working to build financial support for the county 4-H program. She serves as co-coordinator for county office administration.

Biography

Debbie Cheever joined UNH Cooperative Extension in Merrimack County in 1977 after graduating from Keene State College. She is responsible for the Merrimack County 4-H program including recruitment, screening, placement, training and support of volunteers. She recruits volunteers for new 4-H clubs, afterschool clubs, provides new leader orientation, volunteer educational opportunites and maintains an Advisory Council, Foundation and other volunteer groups in support of the program. She is responsible for planning, organizing, and conducting many educational youth opportunites in support of the 4-H program. Debbie is available to provide training in positive youth development, ages and stages of youth developement, 4-H curriculum and volunteer development to those working with youth including aftershool providers, teachers, guidance counselors, other youth workers, and homeschoolers. Debbie is available to answer questions on how one might become a 4-H volunteer or member, questions on 4-H camp and scholarship opportunities, or how one might start 4-H in their community. Debbie provides support to volunteers in the project areas of family and consumer science, leadership and citizenship, special interest project areas, and community service. Debbie serves as Co- Office Administrator for the UNH Cooperative Extension Merrimack County office. She received the UNH Presidential Award of Excellence for outstanding dedication and service in 2005.
