JOHN PORTER
Extension Professor, Specialist, Dairy, Emeritus
A statewide dairy specialist, John works with dairy farmers on production practices, business planning, marketing, barn design and use of new technology. His work also includes advising livestock producers, dairy goat farmers, and beggining farmers, as well as helping landowners with estate planning and land preservation.
| Biography |
| John Porter grew up on a dairy farm in Lebanon, NH, and helped manage a 250 acre farm with his father and brother. He joined UNH Cooperative Extension in 1974. He has direct clientele responsibilities in a five county area, plus serves as a state dairy specialist, as well as a state resource person in agricultural engineering. He is part of the Department of Animal and Nutritional Science Department at UNH, but is based in the Merrimack County office in Boscawen. The Dairy Extension program is an informal education system that provides up-to-date production and research information to dairy producers. The audience also includes part-time livestock producers and the dairy goat industry. Newsletters, farm visits, phone consultations, short courses and conferences are used as a means of diseminating this information to the public. |
