Forestry and Wildlife - Fred Borman

a male and a female cardinalExtension programs in Forestry and Wildlife bring a comprehensive approach to solving problems and protecting resources through an extensive network of partners within the natural resources community. UNH Cooperative Extension works closely with the NH Division of Forests and Lands, NH Department of Fish and Game, Society for the Protection of NH Forests, Audubon Society, NH Timberland Owners Association, USDA Forest Service, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and Farm Services Agency (FSA), Society of American Foresters and other groups to provide assistance to private forestland owners and communities in a scientifically based approach to managing their natural resources.

The Extension Educator for Forestry and Wildlife is available to provide the following services to landowners and communities in Rockingham County:

  • Up to two days per year per tract of on-site observations and recommendations to landowners and community forests in the management of natural resources, including timber and wildlife habitat
  • Referrals to licensed foresters and commercial loggers
  • Natural Resources publications
  • Approvals of practices cost-shared by NRCS, such as those funded under WHIP and EQIP
  • Educational workshops for landowners, communities, and non-profit groups
  • Programs in Urban and Community Forestry including:
    • Training in shade/park tree inventories
    • Management of town forests
    • Non-profit group organization
    • Training for municipal tree workers
    • Tree City USA
