Wildlife Species: AMERICAN MARTEN
American Marten - conservation status & current trends |
American marten (sometimes called pine marten) is listed as a state-threatened species in New Hampshire. These mammals, residents of NH's north country, require mature conifer forests with many stumps, logs, and fallen trees. Matren use this habitat for denning in winter and they hunt in and around fallen logs for prey such as mice, voles, and squirrels. Marten will also eat berries, burds, eggs, and nuts when available.
