Wildlife Species: COOPER'S HAWK
Cooper's Hawk - conservation status & current trends |
The Cooper's hawk breeds in New Hampshire, though sightings of this forest-dwelling hawk are relatively rare. They winter to the south, and return to New Hampshire from April- October to breed. Nest sites are found on forest edges, near agricultural lands, fields and forest clearings. They feed in open areas and woodlots away from the nest site. Based on new research and conservation efforts, the Cooper's hawk is no longer listed as a threatened species in New Hampshire.
