Fitness and Wellness Course
Goals and Objectives
To learn and practice nutrition and fitness concepts which you will be able to apply to your work in your school and/or classroom.
- Conduct nutrient analysis and follow the recommendations for adequate nutrition
- Develop sound diet and weight control programs using nutrition standards
- Discern between myths and facts of exercise, nutrition, and health-related concepts
- Learn behavior modification techniques to help you adhere to a lifetime fitness and wellness program.
- Describe the relationship of Nutrition to health and well being.
- Identify the functions of nutrients in the human body
- Implement a cardiovascular disease risk-reduction program
- Follow guidelines to reduce your personal risk of developing cancer
- Discern between myths and facts of exercise and health-related concepts
- Learn behavior modification techniques to help you adhere to a lifetime fitness and wellness program.
Prior to the start of the course, you will a syllabus and the UNH Wellness Assessment Tool that needs to be completed at the end of the course and mailed to Martha Judson.
All assignments and discussion forums for this class are online and all participants are expected to complete the assignments within the timeframe established by the instructor. Most assignments require reading specific chapters in the book and responding to questions from the instructor. On-line discussion and sharing with other participants is a core aspect of the course.
Course requirements include completing all assignments designated by the instructor, completing the UNH Wellness Assessment Tool and the course evaluation. You will receive a letter grade when you complete the course. Participants completing this course will receive a certificate documenting 45 Staff Development hours. Your certificate will be mailed to you upon completion of all requirements. No undergraduate, graduate or CEU credits are available.
