Lesson Topics
Lessons are designed to cover the main messages of the latest government nutrition guidelines. Each lesson includes tools to help participants make behavior changes. Some of the topics covered:

  • Stretch food dollars to eat better for less.
  • Prevent illness by handling your food safely.
  • Fit more physical activity into your life.
  • Read food labels to choose healthy foods.
  • Help children develop healthy eating habits.
  • Cook quick, low-cost meals and snacks that are tasty and healthy.
  • Eat healthier to prevent chronic diseases.
  • Plan healthy meals.

Here's what participants say about the nutrition education program:

I have prepared a snack cabinet and a refrigerator drawer for healthy items.
The program saved me $25 on one trip to the grocery store because I used the store flyer and didn't give into impulse buying.
I also made a shopping list and stuck to it for the first time.
I now take the time to use coupons and compare the cost-per-unit label which has saved me between $5 and $10 dollars a week.
I didn't realize homemade food was cheaper than prepared food.
I didn't know all the facts about bacteria and how they spread. It makes me more aware about washing my hands and surfaces that have contact with raw foods.
