Growing Christmas Trees
Growing Christmas trees requires an annual commitment of time and money. It isn't a "get rich quick" enterprise. The difference between success and failure rests on site, soil, customers, sales methods, and closeness to markets. Insects, diseases, tree nutrition, weed control, shearing and shaping are some of the important considerations.
There are many sources for buying seedlings. The NH
State Forest Nursery is a good local
source. Here is a listing of other seedling or seed sources. Properly planting the trees is a first step in success.
2008 Christmas Tree Pest Management Course Materials
On March 19 and 20, 2008, seventy-three Christmas Tree growers gathered at Keene State College to diagnose and manage the pests and diseases that threaten production of healthy, marketable Christmas trees. Seventeen industry and research specialists presented talks and laboratory exercises to help growers make good decisions about managing their plantations.
The resource materials distributed to workshop participants are available here for downloading.
