Summary:
This workshop builds on basic concepts from Making Maps the Google Way by providing more advanced techniques for creating Mashup maps using Google tools. First, we will explore the pros and cons of the various methods available for converting GIS files to KML format, and KML files to GIS format. Second, we will survey free tools for providing basic GIS geoprocessing capabilities when working with KML’s (i.e. buffering, area calculation). Finally, we will discuss the use of a Google Maps API for creating true Mashups, allowing the development of more advanced interactive online maps.
To learn about integrating GPS with Google mapping software, consider our Google Puts the "G" in GPS workshop.
