ITDE - Core Competencies

  • Basic Computer Operations
    • Use keyboard to input data and text (Operating.Staff. - 60 wpm)
    • Use mouse to operate Windows-based software. (Right and left button)
    • Differentiate between floppy, hard and CD-ROM disk drives. (A:, B:, C:, D:, E:, etc.)
    • Format floppy disks
    • Check available space on hard and floppy disks
    • Organize files in folders (directories) on disk
    • Select printer default Locate files on floppy, hard drives, CD-ROM, etc
    • Install software from floppy or CD-ROM drive to hard drive
    • Run software from floppy/hard/CD-ROM drive
    • Copy files from floppy drives to hard drive
    • Copy files from one directory to another using Windows Explorer or My Computer
    • Name/Rename a file. Backup files
    • Back up hard drive
    • Delete files from floppy and hard drives
    • Reboot the computer

  • Word Processing
    • Select/Highlight Text
    • Navigate within a document
    • Enter and revise text.
    • Select printer for document
    • Create/select a data directory.
    • List and rename files.
    • Retrieve a document from disk and backup file(s).
    • Save a document to floppy/hard disks.
    • Set/change document margins, tabs, indents and line spacing. (O.S. Only)
    • Bold, underline, tab and indent text
    • Create/edit tables. (O.S. Only)
    • Set/change font, style and size of characters in document
    • Copy and move blocks of text within a document. (O.S. Only )
    • Delete word, sentence, paragraph, block of text
    • Search and replace text. (O.S. Only )
    • Use on-screen help
    • Check spelling, and use thesaurus
    • Preview document on-screen before printing
    • Print document. (print preview)
    • Save file in different formats
    • Create and merge primary and secondary files for lists and labels. (O.S. Only)
    • Change page/paper setup and orientation

  • Electronic Mail
    • Run electronic mail software
    • Connect to CEUNH mail server and check email
    • Prepare (create) a message for mailing
    • Use Spellcheck
    • Send mail to individuals and use distribution lists to mail to groups of people
    • Add mailboxes
    • Add addresses to address book
    • Create a mailing list
    • Reply to a message using the reply button.
    • Forward and copy messages to other users
    • Change password
    • Attachments -viewing, adding, refiling
    • Delete attachments from the hard drive
    • Save important messages in different folders and delete others

  • Internet/WWW Run WWW Browser Software
    • Open locations on the WWW by entering URL's (addresses)
    • Locate and retrieve information from WWW using search engines
    • Print information from the WWW to your local printer
    • Save WWW information to your hard drive
    • Mail WWW information to another user via email
    • Setup and access WWW bookmarks
    • Conduct basic research using WWW resources. (Professional staff only)
    • Add Time and Effort Reporting System (TERS) data (Professional staff only)
    • Run Time and Effort Reporting System (TERS) reports (Professional staff only)
