UNH Greenhouse Open House

Usher in spring with a visit the UNH Greenhouses during the annual Open House. This year's Open House will provide lots of interesting displays and plenty of information to help chase away those winter blues and welcome spring.

The Open House will take place Friday, March 31 and Saturday, April 1. The greenhouses will be open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. both days.
 
UNH's Greenhouse Open House is sponsored by the Thompson School of Applied Science, The Plant Biology Department, Cooperative Extension & the College of Life Science and Agriculture. UNH staff and students will present colorful displays and educational lectures of interest to home gardeners and landscapers.

Visitors can pick up a wealth of information on topics such as using native plants in the landscape, new and unusual vegetable for the home garden, carnivorous plants and how new vegetable and flower varieties are developed at UNH.

A live demonstration will show you how to prune your trees and shrubs. Come with your gardening questions to “Ask the Experts.” Garden displays will include a walk through a beach garden and Willie Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. Additional displays include UNH plant breeding, composting (U DOO), Snackseed pumpkins, information on the NH Master Gardener program, and much more.

Other Open House activities include:

• Plant Sales - From our greenhouses to your home and garden. Could there be a better way to welcome spring?
• The Plant Diagnostic Lab - Bring in your 'sick' plant to the ‘plant doctor’ and learn what to do to make it healthy again.
• Greenhouse Tours - See what exciting research UNH staff and students are doing. Learn how a greenhouse ‘works’.
• A Scavenger Hunt and coloring contest for the children - because we know the value of nurturing young sprouts.

This year's Greenhouse Open House will coincide with the 2006 Seacoast Flower, Home, & Garden Show at the Whittemore Center March 31 - April 2. Shuttle service will be available between the Greenhouses and the Whittemore Center on Friday and Saturday, 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
 
The UNH Greenhouse Open House is free and open to the general public. The UNH Greenhouses are located off Main Street on the west end of Durham. Lectures will take place in Classroom ‘B’ in the Greenhouse. For more information about the UNH Greenhouse Open House, please call 862-3200.
