Ever wonder about the history of the many barns along New Hampshire's scenic byways? A new publication, "Preserving Old Barns", was written by John Porter, Extension Dairy Specialist, and Francis Gilman, retired UNH Cooperative Extension Agricultural Engineering Specialist. "Preserving Old Barns" is fully illustrated and includes a color section featuring more than a dozen beautifully restored barns. This publication in intended to support a growing initiative across New Hampshire to preserve historic agricultural buildings. Led by the NH Historic Agricultural Structures Advisory Committee, the NH Division of Historical Resources and the NH Preservation Alliance, other projects include a state-wide survey of agricultural structures, grant programs for assessments and rehabilitation, and a proposed property tax incentive.
