Accepting Donated Computers - How To Do It

4-H staff are often approached by local businesses and organizations on the issue of accepting computer 'castoffs' for our youth programs. To help us with possible concerns about accepting old computers, the CYFERnet Team is collecting information about the process, benefits and costs of using this strategy to equip a computer lab. If you have experience with this issue, please share your process and considerations with Trudy Dunham. She will compile responses and send the results back to us. Specific questions to answer follow:

- How do you decide what companies / organizations to go to?

- How do you approach the companies? What do you ask?

- What questions do you ask about a potential donation?

- Is there a checklist you use to determine whether a castoff computer is a good deal for you?

- In general, are there some rules or procedures you would suggest for
setting up a lab of castoffs?
