4-H Youth Leader's Academy

Annual John Deere 4-H Youth Leaders' Academy
September 14-17, 2006
The 2006 John Deere 4-H Leaders' Academy offers a unique opportunity for youth-adult teams from land-grant institutions to develop new skills and knowledge in youth in governance and healthy lifestyles. Working alongside teams from across the nation, delegates from your state will explore strategies for implementing a Healthy Lifestyles initiative that integrates the principles of youth in governance. Upon their return, they will be prepared to engage other youth and adults from your state in more fully supporting your Healthy Lifestyles initiative.

The projects that youth-adult teams develop and implement in their states will empower them and others to address the emotional, mental, and physical aspects of Healthy Lifestyles, impact decision making around healthy living, and feel connected to their community. Teams are required to reach a minimum of 100-200 youth and adults in their state to promote Healthy Lifestyles in the context of Youth in Governance.

Thanks to the generosity of John Deere, all expenses of your participating youth member (including travel), and the expenses for your participating adult member (excluding travel) will be covered.

The focus throughout the Leaders' Academy will be on:
Understanding and implementing Youth in Governance
Understanding of latest research on emotional, mental, physical aspects of Healthy Lifestyles
Gaining resources and skills to be able to organize and run activities
Utilizing skills and experience to train others
Identifying a concrete plan of action for state teams

Youth and adults will come together in a full partnership to assess and address attitudes and beliefs about healthy lifestyles. During this time, participants will gain knowledge of the current research on healthy lifestyles and implementation strategies. They will work to finalize their state plan of action which should support the current work being done in their state around healthy lifestyles.

Join National 4-H Council and John Deere as we partner around Healthy Lifestyles, YIG, and the power of youth at the 2nd Annual 4-H Youth Leaders'' Academy on September 14-17, 2006.http://www.fourhcouncil.edu/JDLAApplication/
