JC Penny Associates to Volunteer

In celebration of JCPenney's 105th Anniversary, the company is inviting their associates, families and friends to volunteer with organizations in their community as a thank you to those who have supported them over the years.

National 4-H Council is partnering with JCPenney in their efforts by identifying 4-H clubs, programs and events that need volunteers between April 10-30, 2007. If you are interested in having JCPenney associates volunteer with your 4-H program, please click here to complete a short survey.

If your program is chosen, a National 4-H Council or JCPenney employee will contact you for more information. Please note that the survey will end on March 22, 2007.

Take a moment to visit http://www.4-hbrandnetwork.org/ and register for the site today! This is your place to learn, share and apply ideas to help promote 4-H in your community.

Much more to come! Visit often over the next couple months to find many more great promotional materials including a volunteer recruitment marketing kit and 4-H promotional kits to accompany the public release of Charlotte s Web on December 20, 2006.

Pass the word on to other 4-H members, volunteers and professionals in your states and communities so they can get involved in sharing the great news of 4-H!

Charlotte s Web: Thank you to those who signed up for the 4-H Brand Network during NAE4-HA and attended the special advance screening of Charlotte s Web Monday evening. The Walden Media and Paramount Pictures representatives were thrilled with your enthusiastic response! As thank you notes are always appreciated, and some of you asked for a way to let Walden and Paramount know how much you enjoyed the movie, we wanted to provide you with Laura Stowell s email address, a contact at Walden Media who is working with Paramount to arrange more opportunities for 4-H: laura.stowell@yahoo.com.

Thanks for all you are doing to help the 4-H movement, and please contact us if you need any assistance with your marketing needs!

4-H Youth Leader's Academy

Annual John Deere 4-H Youth Leaders' Academy
September 14-17, 2006
The 2006 John Deere 4-H Leaders' Academy offers a unique opportunity for youth-adult teams from land-grant institutions to develop new skills and knowledge in youth in governance and healthy lifestyles. Working alongside teams from across the nation, delegates from your state will explore strategies for implementing a Healthy Lifestyles initiative that integrates the principles of youth in governance. Upon their return, they will be prepared to engage other youth and adults from your state in more fully supporting your Healthy Lifestyles initiative.

The projects that youth-adult teams develop and implement in their states will empower them and others to address the emotional, mental, and physical aspects of Healthy Lifestyles, impact decision making around healthy living, and feel connected to their community. Teams are required to reach a minimum of 100-200 youth and adults in their state to promote Healthy Lifestyles in the context of Youth in Governance.

Thanks to the generosity of John Deere, all expenses of your participating youth member (including travel), and the expenses for your participating adult member (excluding travel) will be covered.

The focus throughout the Leaders' Academy will be on:
Understanding and implementing Youth in Governance
Understanding of latest research on emotional, mental, physical aspects of Healthy Lifestyles
Gaining resources and skills to be able to organize and run activities
Utilizing skills and experience to train others
Identifying a concrete plan of action for state teams

Youth and adults will come together in a full partnership to assess and address attitudes and beliefs about healthy lifestyles. During this time, participants will gain knowledge of the current research on healthy lifestyles and implementation strategies. They will work to finalize their state plan of action which should support the current work being done in their state around healthy lifestyles.

Join National 4-H Council and John Deere as we partner around Healthy Lifestyles, YIG, and the power of youth at the 2nd Annual 4-H Youth Leaders'' Academy on September 14-17, 2006.http://www.fourhcouncil.edu/JDLAApplication/

We are still working on the details but are trying to gather interested 4-H members to be involved. If you are interested, please contact Gretchen Hilburger via email or telephone (information below) no later than Monday, March 6, 2006. We recognize this is quick and apologize for the short notice, but need your input as quickly as possible.

Boys & Girls Clubs of America

There has been a request to clarify the relationship we are suppose to be having with Boys and Girls clubs based on the national MOA. This MOA is with National 4-H and Boys and Girls club for one year with the potential for renewal. It is made in connection with the 4-H Afterschool program. There is not an official MOA with National 4-H Headquarters.

You will find the MOA on the Staff Resources web page http://www.extension.unh.edu/4H/4HYDSR.htm. Please use for conversations with BGCA if it is helpful to you. It is intentionally quite vague to fit all purposes.
