UNHCE Information Technology & Distance Education Blog
October 23, 2007
The following objectives for the UNH Cooperative Extension website were developed by the Web Subcommittee of the ITDE Committee:
- Provide the public access to research-based educational resources relating to our programming areas.
- When available or pertinent to our programming, providing timely information related to current events affecting NH people.
- Provide Extension staff and volunteers with access to up-to-date resources to facilitate their jobs/volunteer roles.
- Develop innovative models of interactive learning and teaching that (1) expand current CE staff capacity (2) reach new audiences unable to participate in conventional face-to-face programming.
- Publicize Extension events, programs, and research.
- Provide background information on who we are (including our connection to UNH) and the types of things we do.
This is a DRAFT list and we would appreciate your comments below. Posted by sjudd at October 23, 2007 3:35 PM
Looks good!
My only comment is re Bullet #. Perhaps change 'providing' to 'provide'in order to make it consistent with other goals. Also, reverse order of sentence so that you are starting with the verb and end with, ...when the info is available or pertinent to our programming."

Provide all users with an up-to-date, attractive and user-friendly environment in which to access and share information;
and
To promote an attitude of customer service and community care in all aspects of web connection and accessibility.
Just my 2 cents. Malcolm
Posted by: Malcolm Smith at October 23, 2007 6:19 PMAll goals sound admirable, but I'd like to see one or two that are directed specifically towards the use of the website for staff, in particular ease of use (posting new information, updates, etc.) and speed/efficiency locating tools/forms/info on the intranet side of our site.

The goals look good. I agree with Malcolm's comments. Especially attractive and user friendly environment.

One comment regarding Objective #4: "Develop innovative models of interactive learning and teaching that (1) expand current CE staff capacity (2) reach new audiences unable to participate in conventional face-to-face programming." I would say "Develop and make available on the UNH CE web site innovative models of interactive learning and teaching. These interactive learning and teaching opportunities will expand current .... and reach.....
Cornell University is a good example of using interactive learning on their web site (go to: http://www.nutritionworks.cornell.edu/home/index.cfm

Posted by: Val Long at October 25, 2007 10:26 AMI agree with Sue, ease of use should be a high priority. Not only ease of use for the staff, but also for the audience.
Posted by: Tina at October 29, 2007 8:12 AMI like the goals, but would add something to the 4th bullet. Using technology to deliver programs has advantages beyond reaching those who cannot attend meetings.
I'd say, "Develop innovative models of interactive learning and teaching that (1) expand current CE staff capacity (2) reach new audiences unable to participate in conventional face-to-face programming, and 3) make information available "on demand," and 4) facilitate the dissemination of new information on a timely basis."
