Woodcock Ecology and Management, Thursday, April 16, 2009, Lyme, NH

Save the date for this workshop, which will take place from noon through evening, where you will have the opportunity to witness the fascinating flight patterns of singing male woodcock.  More details to follow – new Coverts Volunteer Jim Kennedy is helping to organize this workshop, in cooperation with UNH Cooperative Extension, NH Fish & Game, and the Northern Forest Woodcock Initiative.  Stay tuned for more information to follow!

Volunteer Opportunities

 

Landscaping at the Waters Edge Presenters Training – March 5, Meredith, NH

Are you interested in doing education about ecological landscaping in your community?  This is a a workshop designed for Master Gardeners, Community Tree Stewards, Coverts Volunteers and Lay Lakes Monitors.  The workshop will familiarize you with a program you can use to do outreach, designed for lakes associations, garden clubs, libraries, town boards and others can. Teaching materials will begiven to participants along with the book, Landscaping at the Water’s Edge: An Ecological Approach. Participants willbe asked to present the program to two groups within the next year. Participants will be able to sign up for talks already booked or can take advantage of future opportunities.   Registration and more information about the agenda can click here for the flyer

 

Oiled Wildlife Volunteer Training – April 18, 2009, Durham

Get trained so you can be prepared to help during the next oil spill involving wildlife.  To learn more about this all-day training (9 a.m. – 4 p.m.) at the UNH Coastal Response Research Center, call Rebecca Dunne at Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research at 302-737-9543 x109.  There is no cost for the workshop, but they ask that participants be willing to volunteer if they go through the training.

Coverts Advisory Committee Meeting a Success

The Coverts Advisory Committee had a great meeting on Feb. 6th at the Farm & Forest Expo.  Attended by 20 staff, partners and Coverts volunteers, we collected ideas, reflected on the past year, and made plans for 2009.  To read notes from the meeting, click here (they are posted on the Coverts website, under “Resources for Coverts Volunteers”).

 

New Publications on White Nose Bat Syndrome
