Coverts Workshop 2009
The application period is now open for the 2009 Coverts Workshop, to be held at a new location (the Barbara C. Harris Conference Center in Greenfield, NH) September 23-26, 2009. Coverts Cooperators are our best source of new participants—you know the program and the type of person who will benefit from the training. Please help us fill our next class of volunteers with other wildlife and habitat enthusiasts!
The application materials are posted online at our website: www.NHCoverts.org. I am also collecting names and addresses of potential applications, to whom I will send a personal note, encouraging them to apply. Please email Malin with names and mailing addresses of potential new Coverts trainees (or call at 862-2166). Thank you for your help recruiting our next class!
Coverts Gathering Planned for May 23 in Orford
Save the Date! Coverts Gathering: Saturday, May 23 - Schwaegler Tree Farm, Orford
Come meet the new Grafton County Extension Forester, Dave Falkenham, at this spring walk at Bruce and Sarah Schwaegler’s Tree Farm in Orford, NH. We’ll gather for coffee overlooking Indian Pond, then spend the morning visiting wildlife openings and managed woodlands that the Schwaegler’s have worked on over the past decade. Sarah is a renown wildflower enthusiast and expert—you are guaranteed to learn something new from her! Click here for the event brochure, including directions. New Workshops
Controlled Fire Management Event – April 13, Northwood
On Monday, April 13 at 6 p.m., Harmony Hill Farm (owned by Carl Wallman, CC05) will be conducting a controlled burn on the fields at the farm. People interested in watching the event are invited to attend. The burn gives local fire departments an
opportunity to train fire fighters, and serves as a conservation measure for Harmony Hill Farm. This fire is the largest grassland fire training held in NH--sometimes more than 50 firefighters show up for the training. Ice Storms Workshop: Ecological Effects, Tree Health & Landowner Decisions – April 18, Harris Center, Hancock
The ice storm of December 12 was a disaster for some residents and a nuisance for others, as the forest damage varied across the landscape. Discover Wild New Hampshire Day – Saturday, April 18, (10 a.m.–3 p.m.), Concord
We are looking for 1-2 volunteers to help us staff the Forestry & Wildlife booth during this busy, family-oriented event. If you like interacting with kids and adults, we’ll have some hands-on activities for you (and a UNHCE staff person) to help work the crowd! Invasive Plant Workday – April 22, Odiorne State Park, Rye
The Coastal Watershed Invasive Plant Partnership and 200 Timberland, Inc. employees will be battling invasive plants at Odiorne State Park in Rye from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m..
