Help Survey New Hampshire for New Forest Pests

The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) beetle and Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB) have destroyed millions of trees throughout the United States. The UNH Cooperative Extension Coverts Program, New Hampshire Department of Agriculture and United States Department of Agriculture are partnering to ask members to participate in the USDA Citizen Volunteer EAB/ALB Forest Pest Survey Project. We need your help to determine if these damaging forest pests are in your community.  Click here to learn about the Volunteer-based effort (the information is also posted under “What’s New” on the Coverts webpage

The Public Listening Session on Working Forests-Part of the President's “America’s Great Outdoors” Initiative:  August 9 – Concord

Please join senior representatives from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) for a public listening session on conservation, recreation and reconnecting people to the outdoors. The session will be held Monday, August 9, from 12:30 to 5:00 p.m. in Concord, New Hampshire.  To quote the materials:  “This past April at the White House Conference on America’s Great Outdoors, President Obama signed a memorandum establishing the America’s Great Outdoors Initiative to develop a conservation agenda to reconnect Americans with our great outdoors.  The President understands that protecting and restoring the lands and waters that we love and reconnecting people to the outdoors must happen at the local level...”  Click here for more information
 

Timber Harvest Tour – Gilsum, Sept. 3, 1-4 p.m.

Join forester Charles Koch, UNH Cooperative Extension Forestry Educator Steve Roberge, and the Stewardship Manager Emily Hague (CC05) for a tour of the Maynard Forest timber harvest on Friday, September 3, from 1-4 p.m.  The tour will meet at the property’s entrance at the end of Old Keene Road in Gilsum.  Participants will walk through the marked harvest areas as Koch explains the silvicultural objectives of the 2010 harvest.
