American Woodcock Heard in Durham - Monday, Marcy 14
I was out early this morning - still dark - and heard a woodcock peenting at a local farm in Durham. It's a sign that males have started to return to New Hampshire, and are laying claim to coveted singing grounds. A sure sign of spring! Anyone else want to share some signs of spring on the wildlife front? (Use the "comments" link, above).

A flock of red-winged blackbirds arrived Sunday morning, March 13th, in my yard on the southern side of Mt. Moosilauke which sits at about 1400'. Wonderful to hear their buzzy song. A true harbinger of spring.
Red-wing blackbirds also spotted singing from the tops of trees for the first time on Sunday afternoon in Brentwood. Reminded me of warm days to come!
Hi. I heard a wood cock in Portsmouth last Saturday.
I had 18 (at least) of them displaying after sunset at Warren Farm last night. Until some near bird began screeching. Kinda dampened the activity. Wasn't aware they could be this concentrated.
