Come see and share photos and field data on our common and rare reptile and amphibian species. Learn which species are found in what habitat type at what time of year. Bring boots, cameras, notebooks, binoculars, field guides and a lunch. This is a field based course but will also include the RAAPP sighting protocol for NH Fish and Game reporting. This fieldtrip is co-sponsored by the Nottingham Conservation Commission.

Join Coverts Project volunteer Jim Kennedy for a program hosted by the Hanover Conservancy on May 31 from 2:30 - 4:30pm. 

"Landscaping for Wildlife" is a presentation from the Speaking for Widlife program, but Jim, a wetland scientist, will provide his own enthusiasm, experience, and knowledge making this a special event! 

Here are ideas for your garden and yard! We’ll begin at the Etna Library with an indoor presentation by Jim Kennedy on landscaping with native plants to benefit wildlife. Then we’ll head out (rain or shine) for a gentle to moderate walk up through the Hayes Farm Park to the new Nan & Allen King Bird Sanctuary to tour blooming wildlife plantings and enjoy views over the Mink Brook valley of Etna. Includes a printed guide to the sanctuary’s plantings. Location: Etna Library & Hayes Farm Park. Learn the basics of working with ArcGIS 10 in a hands-on learning environment! This course is useful for people who have no prior GIS experience, as well as those who have used ArcGIS, but are new to ArcGIS 10. Familiarity with Windows is highly recommended.

With a focus on New Hampshire data and applications, participants learn how to use ArcGIS 10 to produce attractive, effective maps. In addition, each participant receives their own detailed step-by-step manual to use as a reference after the course is over.

NH Fish & Game's Region 3 Office and the Bellamy River Wildlife Management Area in Dover, NH

On Friday, June 15, 2012, The New Hampshire Association of Natural Resource Scientists (NHANRS) will present a workshop titled "Grasslands, Shrublands, and Wet Meadows - Ecology, Establishment, and Management". Topics will include cool-season and native warm-season grasses, wildlife habitat management techniques, agro-forestry suitability, wet meadow identification, and native pollinators. The single-day event will be held at the NH Fish & Game's Region 3 Office and the Bellamy River Wildlife Management Area in Dover, NH. The workshop is open to natural resource professionals, land resource managers, and wildlife conservationists. Wetlands Evaluation Workshop: The NH Method and the NEW NH Wetlands Mapper!

We'll start the workshop at the Old Town Hall in Bow with some introductory presentations. We will then move into the field to conduct a wetland field evaluation at a wetland a couple of minutes from the Town Hall. Scroll to the agenda below.

I-89 north. Take Exit 1 to Bow/Logging Hill Road. Turn right onto South Street. Continue onto Logging Hill Road. Continue straight onto Bow Center Road. The Old Town Hall is on the left (approximately 2.9 miles from exit 1 off I-89).

Back for 2012 by popular demand, this fun, interactive workshop for natural resource volunteers will cover the basics of planning and delivering a field trip. Emphasis will be on leading walks on local conservation parcels, but landowners interested in leading walks on their own land are also encouraged to attend.

Participants in this (free) training should be willing to commit to leading at least one outdoor event in the subsequent 6 months. You can do it! It's easy, it's fun, and we promise you'll feel prepared after this workshop!

Who should attend? Any new or existing natural resource volunteers, including Coverts Cooperators, Forest Society Land Stewards, Audubon Society Sanctuaries volunteers, trails groups, Natural Resource Stewards, Conservation Commissioners, Local land trust volunteers, and other community volunteers.

The NH Coverts Workshop in 2012 will take place from October 3-6, 2012 at the Barbara C. Harris Camp & Conference Center in Greenfield, NH. Application materials for the 2012 Coverts Workshop are available online now! The application deadline is June 22, 2012. Applicants will be notified by the end of July.
