Family & Youth Development
The 4-H youth Development Program seeks to build strong families, competent young people and caring communities. Through a committed network of volunteers, 4-H offers youth the opportunities to explore personal interests, develop life skills and become involved in communities. Ask us about joining the 4-H team, as a member or volunteer leader. The Youth Development program also offers training on collaborations, conducts community needs assessment for identifying youth issues and creates community based programs for youth ages 5-18.
The Family & Consumer Resources helps families and individuals learn new skills and apply up-to-date information in their everyday lives. Practical information is offered through workshops, staff trainings, newsletters, publications, correspondence courses and telephone assistance. Areas of emphasis are: Family Finances; Food Safety; Parenting Education; Leadership and Community Development.
The Nutrition Connection Program provides basic education in nutrition to families with limited resources. Information is provided through small group presentations and one-to-one teaching visits in the client’s home. Programs include: Great Beginnings, Eating Right is Basic, Nutrition Home Study Course, and Planning Ahead Staying Ahead. Menu Planning, the Food Guide Pyramid, and Cooking Skills are just a few of the topics covered in these programs. Natural Resources
The Agricultural Resources Program provides education and information to commercial growers, part-time farmers, and homeowners in the fields of agriculture and water quality. Meetings and workshops are held in the county covering: Nutrient and Pest Management; Farm Management; Soil Testing; Forage Production and Water Quality. The Dairy Program will provide you with information, whether you have a large farm or just a cow or two as a 4-H project, on: Dairy Herd Management; Dairy Production & Financial Records; Forage Analysis & Ration Balancing; Pasture Management; Public Awareness of Agriculture; and Farm & Rural Safety.
The Forestry & Wildlife Program provides information and assistance about Forest Stewardship to woodland owners, loggers, foresters, communities, youth and homeowners; Wildlife Habitat, Timber Production, current Use Assessment, Insect and Disease Control, Management Planning, Timber Sales, Marketing of Forest Products, Maple Sugaring and Christmas Tree Production, Community Forest, and Water Protection.
Strengthening New Hampshire Communities
The Community Profile Program helps strengthen communities by enhancing: citizen involvement; community consensus; positive energy; future planning & visioning and community spirit. During the Community Profile, a two day event, communities take stock of where they are today and develop action plans for the future. It provides a method for citizens to affirm community strengths, to meet challenges creatively through collaboration, and to manage change.
