4-H Focus on Fashion Trip Inspires Youth

Have you ever wondered what Fashion really is?  Merrimack County teens Kayla Corliss, Adrianna Wells, Marisa Kimball, Jessica Kimball all from Pittsfield, Molly Dahl, Chichester, Emily Jenna, Warner, Julia Jones, Sutton, Kasey Manning, Canterbury, and Jocelyn Tanner, Webster, recently got the chance to travel with other teens from across New Hampshire to one of the fashion capitals of the world to find out. In New York City the teens looked at fashion from many different viewpoints and learned more about the industry than they ever knew existed. Seminars introduced the youth to different aspects of the industry including the history of fashion, fabric design, magazine publishing, clothing design, and the use of contemporary materials in manufacturing. On one of their favorite stops, a hat shop; they learned the difference between fashion and style, and were inspired to become lifelong students of the world. Despite the diversity of these topics, there was one message that reverberated throughout each of the visits. The common message was that all things are possible if you live your passion and work hard!  Though fashion was the primary focus of the trip, a visit to the Big Apple wouldn’t be complete without sight-seeing. In between fashion seminars, the teens had the opportunity to explore the City from Ellis Island to Belvedere Castle in Central Park and even had time to take in a Broadway show. They saw the City in all her glory and many felt the tug of desire to spend more time in this fast-paced world of industry and illusion. All in all it was a magical trip that inspired youth and adults alike to reach for the stars and believe in their dreams.
