UNH Cooperative Extension in Rockingham County is your local link to the University of New Hampshire. We provide practical education to people of all ages. Our name is derived from the partnership structure that combines federal, state, and county funding. This "cooperative" effort ensures that all people have local access to their state university and the knowledge and resources available to address their needs and problems. Our principal partner is the University of New Hampshire, and the state office for UNH Cooperative Extension is located on campus in Durham. As a state land-grant university, UNH is charged by Congress to conduct resident instruction, research, and outreach to people beyond the classroom. Rockingham County is also an essential partner, and our office is within the County complex in Brentwood.
As a University outreach program, there is a network of professional Extension staff in all 10 New Hampshire counties. Rockingham County residents benefit from our educational programs that provide research-based information to meet the societal, environmental and economic needs of local citizens. The major program areas represented by Extension Educators in this county include Agricultural Resources, Family and Consumer Resources, Community Development, 4-H Youth Development, Forestry and Wildlife Resources, Land and Water Conservation, and Marine Resources.
Some examples of local and state efforts include 4-H clubs and events, parenting programs, monitoring water quality in our lakes and rivers, collaborative efforts to sustain marine fisheries, aquaculture, reducing the use of pesticides, community collaborations to meet the needs of youth, improving health through media literacy in families and youth, consumer issues, land use management, nutrition, food safety, forest stewardship, family finances, insuring financial security in later years, meeting the needs of low-income families, and strengthening our communities through the Community Profile process.
Visit our office in the Rockingham County Complex at 113 North Road in Brentwood. Our office hours are 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM , Monday-Friday. You can also reach us by phone (603) 679-5616 or 1-800-248-6672 (NH only), fax 603-679-8070, or email. We encourage you to contact any member of the staff if you have questions or needs we can address.
