NH 4-H Horse Judging and Hippology Contests
(All day)

The NH 4-H Horse Judging and Hippology Contests are two separate contests. The Horse Judging contest allows members to demonstrate their ability to judge conformation and performance classes of horses and later present oral reasons to explain their placings (reasons division only).

The Hippology Contest is a comprehensive contest of equine knowlege involving a written test, practical exam, problem solving, equipment identification, and horse judging. Juniors (ages 12-13 participate as individuals) and seniors (ages 14-18) participate in county teams (those without a county team will be placed with members from other counties).

Junior Hippology contestants may, if desired, participate in the non-reasons judging contest. Seniors must chose either horse judging or hippology.

Qualified seniors placing in the top 8 in both contests may be chosen to represent NH at the NE Regional 4-H Horse contest and the Eastern National 4-H Horse Roundup.

There will be a county sponsored Novice Hippologe event for members ages 8-11. More information will be announced.

NH 4-H Maker Challenge: Water Rockets
(10:00 AM - 03:00 PM)

This year’s 4-H Maker Challenge is to launch a rocket powered by water/air pressure and see how long it will stay in the air, with additional bonus seconds earned by landing in designated target zones. The challenge is open to all youth ages 8 – 18, 4-H members and non-members alike. To honor the youth adult partnership in learning as well as youth independence there will be two divisions:

Open Division – This division is open to youth or teams of youth to work with the help and guidance of an adult mentor or leader.  Teams may build and enter up to 3 rockets and one launcher for the maximum time aloft contest.  Adults are meant to coach youth in the design and building of the rockets with a minimal role in the actual building of the rocket and launcher.  They should teach and monitor safe tool use and rocket launching.  $10.00/ team

On Site Build Division – This division is open to youth ages 8-18 to build a rocket on-site the morning of the contest with materials made available (see list below).  Youth will have 60 minutes to build their rocket with materials provided to them.  They may work as individuals or in teams of two.  They may bring plans or drawings but no other materials.  Participants will work inside a corral where only other youth and adult judges will be allowed.  Youth are encouraged to work on prototypes prior to the contest but will not be allowed to bring them into the corral with them.  Launching will follow the rules below and will use launchers provided by the 4-H Judges. $10.00/ team

Registration Open May 1st- June 15th
