Help for Landowners

Forest landowners hold the key to protecting New Hampshire's environment. Three quarters of the landscape is owned by 84,000 people in properties averaging 40 acres. Each county has a forester available to answer questions about woodlot care.

The Forestry Information Center can answer many of your natural resource related questions. When sending an email please provide contact information (phone number and post office address) and what kind of assistance or information you want. The center can also be reached for callers in any of the New England states at 1-800-444-8978. The postal address is Rm 211 Nesmith Hall, 131 Main Street, Durham, NH, 03824.

The center has a large selection of fact sheets available that can be ordered directly using the publication list.

Professionals can help you with your land. County foresters help woodlot owners get started with caring for their land. There are many other professionals that go the next step. The Directory of Licensed Foresters is a partial list of licensed foresters who can help landowners with boundary marking, Christmas trees, estate planning, forest management, stewardship, or current use plans, wildlife habitat, selling timber including marking trees, developing a contract and supervising the cutting, title and boundary searches, tax assistance, tree planting, weeding, thinning, pruning, woods road construction, Tree Farm inspections, timber and timberland appraisal, and general woodland examinations.

The Directory of New Hampshire Certified Loggers and Forest Products Truckers is a listing of loggers who received specialized training. Please email the Forestry Information Center for the complete directory.
