Hemlock Wooly Adelgid
The Canadian hemlocks (Tsuga canadensis) immortalized in Longfellow’s poem still murmur throughout
New Hampshire’s forests. Though individual hemlock trees have relatively low timber value, their sheer
abundance in our forests makes them an important living resource. In addition to their aesthetic value in
our natural and human-created landscapes, hemlocks provide wildlife habitat, contribute to water quantity
and quality, and play an important role in maintaining forest biodiversity.
