Controlling Deer Damage In New England Orchards
Deer damage to both young non-bearing and mature bearing apple trees is a problem on the increase in New England. The use of spur-type trees and dwarf rootstocks makes available a greater proportion of each tree for browsing by deer. In addition a reduction in use and maintenance of exclusionary fences around orchards allows deer greater access to trees.
