NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) developed the Atlantic Large Whale Take Reduction Plan (ALWTRP) in 1997. Th e plan’s goal is to reduce the number of fi shing gear-related injuries and mortalities of North Atlantic large whale species that occur along the U.S. east coast from Maine through Florida.
