Robert Craycraft
Educational Program Coordinator, LLMP

Biography

Robert joined UNH Cooperative Extension in 1991. While an undergraduate at UNH, Robert was employed by the New Hampshire Lakes Lay Monitoring Program, a statewide volunteer lake and stream monitoring program, where he worked directly with the residents from lakes across Hampshire. Through his interaction with the public during his undergraduate career, Robert became familiar with water quality concerns and water quality perceptions of New Hampshire residents, which proved to be an invaluable precursor to his employment with Cooperative Extension. Following two years as a Water Resources Program Assistant Robert assumed his current position of Educational Program Coordinator in 1993 where he continues to work with local residents on lakes and streams throughout New Hampshire.

Educational Background
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from UNH in 1990 with emphasis in aquatic ecology

Program Specialty Areas
  • Coordinates the laboratory and field team activities of the New Hampshire Lakes Lay Monitoring Program; a statewide volunteer monitoring program tracking water quality changes in New Hampshire Lakes and Streams. The program relies on trained volunteer monitors who collect frequent water quality measurements, such as water transparency, microscopic plant "algal" abundance and nutrient data, on their respective lakes, ponds and streams. This watershed wide monitoring program is dedicated to preserving our states water resources through the generation of credible data which tracks water quality changes in New Hampshire's lakes and streams. The data are distributed to participating groups (including, lake associations, conservation commissions, planning boards and the general public) through summary reports which review the current conditions of participating lakes, highlight means of minimizing water quality degradation through the implementation of Best Management Practices and provide recommendations for future water quality monitoring and corrective efforts as appropriate.

  • Provides water quality information and educational programs for lake associations, conservation commissions, the general public and other interested organizations on water quality topics including, drinking water, non-native species, water quality monitoring and Best Management Practices available to minimize water quality degradation
