Extension Educator, Family & Consumer Resources and Administrator, Family, Home and Garden Education Center
Biography
Alice Mullen joined UNH Cooperative Extension in 1987. She is a registered dietitian and teaches nutrition workshops that emphasize making healthy food choices. Alice also presents workshops on food safety. Through hands-on activities and demonstrations, she teaches food service personnel and consumers how to handle food safely and reduce the risk of foodborne illness.
As Administrator for the Family, Home & Garden Education Center, Alice provides leadership and facilitation for the Center's mission, "to provide practical solutions to everday questions for the citizens of New Hampshire." The Center, staffed by professionals and highly trained volunteers, offers a toll-free information line Monday through Friday from 9am -2pm, Wednesday, 5pm-7:30 pm, and answers consumer questions on gardening, tree planting and care, pest problems, food safety, and other family and consumer questions. The Family, Home and Garden Education Center website links consumers to hundreds of family, home and garden informational fact sheets and email access for questions. The Master Gardener and Community Tree Steward programs train volunteers, so they can extend Cooperative Extension's mission and serve their communities through a variety of educational activities.
