How does a speakers bureau work?

Speakers bureaus act as a resource for people who plan meetings, conferences and special events. Bureaus have content experts on staff to bring speaker expertise to the attention of event planners and decision makers. UNHCE MGSB works with speakers who address a series of topic needs.

After you have decided on a topic and the speaker has accepted your invitation, UNHCE MGSB handles all the details. We contact the speaker and he/she will coordinate directly with you.

Why should I choose The UNH Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Speaker's Bureau?

There are several reasons to use to work with us, here are a few:
• We are constantly researching trends and topics and monitoring so that we can provide you with up to date, research-based information
• The speakers are trained and vetted
• We support you at each stage of the process, selecting, briefing and logistics.

What is the process for booking a speaker?
Complete our online form and let us know as much as you can about the event you are planning; objectives, audience, time-frame. and  theme you are looking for. We will then chose speakers that are appropriate. The speaker will contact you directly if interested.  All members of the Speakers’ Bureau are Master Gardeners with knowledge and interest in the subjects in which they speak. When you choose your topic, we will find a speaker who is available on that date. Once you have a contract with the Speakers’ Bureau we will provide a brief bio of your speaker, sufficiently in advance for use in publicity.

Can I book Presentations that are not listed on your website?
There are a small number of presentations available and we will advise you who to contact on these few occasions where we cannot help you ourselves.

What are your terms and conditions?
Please email pam.doherty@unh.edu to request our Terms and Conditions and we will send them to you.

Can you provide speakers for free for charitable events?
Unfortunately we cannot offer speakers for free.

How does someone become a speaker with The UNH Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Speakers Bureau (UNHCEMGSB)?

Fees and Costs

What is the standard fee?

There is a flat fee of $ 50.00 per speaking engagement paid directly to UNHCE at 329 Mast Road, Suite 115, Goffstown, NH.

What does the speaker fee include?
The fee covers the speech and Q&A.

If I book more than one speaker can I get a discount?
Unfortunately we cannot offer discounts. Also, because of the overwhelming number of requests, coupled with the speakers’ busy schedules, organizations now will be limited to three requests for a speaker per year.

Logistics

Do you give us any help after we have booked our speaker with you?
Yes, it is really important to us to ensure that you have booked the right speaker and that he/she is briefed properly and arrives in good time. The speaker will contact you before your event to provide you with all the materials you will need for your publicity; photos, updated speaker profile, the speaker’s technical requirements. We will also provide you with an introduction for you to use at the event that has been approved by the speaker.

How do I brief my speaker?
4 to 6 weeks before your event (sooner if you prefer) your speaker will contact you and arrange a mutually convenient time for a briefing call.

Can we record the speech?

Most speakers approve recording for archival purposes, but every speaker is different, and some are sensitive about taping. In all cases, you need to ask permission from UNHCEMGSB before recording of any kind. Please contact us if you have a specific need in mind.

You must request permission in advance to record part of or all of a speaker’s speech.

What happens if our booked speaker has to cancel because of an emergency?
We are as committed to the success of your program as you are. In the unlikely event of a speaker being unable to attend, such as a sudden emergency or unforeseen circumstance, we will, where possible offer you an alternative speaker. If that speaker is not acceptable we will refund your payment in full.
