President: Carole Dennis sitting in for Bob Graybill
In addition to presiding over board and committee meetings, including the annual symposium, the NHMGA board president has a variety of responsibilities. As “chief volunteer,” the president works with the board, staff and community to further the organization’s mission. The president influences how the board uses its time, the selection of board members and its future leadership.
The president is expected to review and understand the organization's by-laws, policies and procedures, financial and legal situation, and strategic plan. As the board ambassador, the president acts as a spokesperson to the larger community. She/ He speaks in public on behalf of the organization and advocates for the cause.
Working with the board's governance committee, the president recruits new board members whose vision aligns with the organization. The president appoints committee chairs and is in charge of board member performance evaluations and succession planning, and plays a crucial role in new board member orientation. She/ He mentors the president-elect.
Vision and Fund Raising:
Strategic planning and fund raising are vital to the success of the NHMGA. The president works with the board to ensure resolutions are carried out. Together, they set the agendas which are focused on key strategic issues.
Skills and Qualities:
Demonstrated community leadership; being respected by board members, and key stakeholders; able to lead the board in handling difficult issues; and, the ability to communicate, listen and seek input from others. The president should feel comfortable delegating. Strong group dynamic skills are essential to keep meetings running smoothly and to deal with any conflicts that may arise.
The president-elect shall perform the duties of the president in the event of her/his absence and such other duties as shall be assigned by the president. The president-elect shall anticipate being nominated for president the following year.
Interim Treasurer: Marcy Stanton
The University Systems of NH is the organization from which the NHMGA derives its non-profit status and thus the NHMGA needs to follow the financial policies of the USNH.
The NHMGA treasurer in cooperation with USNH and the UNHCE Business Service Center shall keep a full and accurate account of receipts and expenditures; and shall make disbursements in accordance with the directions of the Board and the Association's membership. The treasurer shall present a financial statement at each Board meeting and shall make a full report to the membership at all meetings. The treasurer shall sit on the Fundraising Committee. The treasurer shall prepare a budget of estimated revenue and expenses for the forthcoming year, to be presented for approval at the annual Association meeting. The approved yearly budget will be turned in to the UNHCE Business Service Center by the NHMGA treasurer via the MG Coordinator.
Co Secretaries: Marie Nickerson
The secretary shall record the minutes of all meetings of the Association and of the Board and shall perform other duties as may be delegated to her/him.
Membership: Chair Tina Larochelle
The committee shall be responsible for conducting the annual membership enrollment including member recruitment, retention, and recognition. It shall assist with publishing the annual Membership Directory.
Communications: Chair Pamela Doherty
It shall be the responsibility of the committee to keep the membership and the public informed of the Association's activities through contributions to the Master Gardener newsletter and press releases and to provide other publicity as requested by the Association or Board.
Fundraising, Merchandise Sales: Chair: Marie Nickerson
The committee shall be charged with responsibility for raising funds from public and private sources, as appropriate to fulfill the NHMGA’s stated purposes.
Special Funding Committee: Chair: Margaret Walker
The committee shall be responsible for receiving special funding applications, reviewing them and awarding funding in accordance with the policies adopted by the Board.
The committee is responsible for the planning, scheduling, marketing/promotion, registration of the annual NHMGA symposium.
