The University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension, Pesticide Safety Education Program offers trainings to prepare prospective applicators for the private and commercial applicator certification exams. For more information regarding training, refer to the section: "Initial Certification - Training".
To be certified as a pesticide applicator, you must take the appropriate exam(s). Exams must be scheduled in advance with the Division of Pesticide Control. Exams are given each Friday morning in Concord, NH, to register call the NH Department of Agriculture, Division of Pesticide Control, (603) 271-3694 to make the necessary arrangements. In some instances, the applicant has the option of taking the exam through their county extension office or during UNH Cooperative Extension Initial Training (Private Applicators only), in which case the application forms and fees would be submitted to the Division of Pesticide Control, and arrangements would be made to take the exam at the extension office or during training.
The certification exams are developed, administered and graded by the NH Department of Agriculture, Markets and Food, Division of Pesticide Control and the UNH Cooperative Extension. Questions in the exams come from study materials. Information regarding how to obtain these materials can be found in the "Examination Study Material and Fact Sheets" section of our website. Order the study materials at least three weeks before taking the training classes and/or exam to allow adequate time to read and review.
The University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension, Pesticide Safety Education Program will offer trainings in January, February, March, and April 2017 to prepare prospective applicators for their private and commercial applicator certification exams. Please note that these trainings do not satisfy the requirements for applicators looking to get certified as Supervisory Registration Certification - General Use Applicators.
Attendance at an initial certification training is not required for certification at the operational level. However, it does help direct the studying. Instructors will provide a review of the information found in the National Pesticide Applicator Certification Core Manual, NH Code of Administrative Rules, and the Worker Protection Standard for Agricultural Pesticides. Private applicator testing will be held the last day of training at each location.
