The New Hampshire Beekeepers’ Association (NHBA) Annual Summer Outing is Saturday, June 24, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Musterfield Farms on Harvey Road, in North Sutton, New Hampshire. This educational event is for NHBA members. Information about NHBA is at www.nhbeekeepers.org.
The event includes Jan Mercieri, from theNorth Country Beekeepers, talking about the innovative Flow Hive; UNH Cooperative Extension specialist Alan Eaton giving a creative presentation on ticks; and a panel of veteran beekeepers sharing their knowledge during a question and discussion session.
NHBA representatives will also announce the winners of the 2017 George Hamilton Scholarship. The mission of the scholarship is to “disburse scholarship money to graduating high school seniors and post-secondary students in agriculture, biology and/or honey bee related field.” The two winners this year will each receive an award of $1,000.
The NHBA named the scholarship after Cooperative Extension specialist George Hamilton in recognition of his longstanding commitment to educating New Hampshire’s beekeepers and the numerous ways he has supported their organization, such as securing national speakers and providing guidance on educational programming. George’s support has helped ensure the success of NHBA for many years.
Past NHBA President Barbara Lawler wrote, “George does an outstanding job of educating the organization on the other areas of NH’s agriculture to promote fellowship, understanding and camaraderie.” Kevin Lefebvre from the NHBA added, “George is there any time you need him.”
