On March 1st, American Farmland Trust is launching their new New England Farmer Microgrants Program (NEFMP). Please read on to learn more about this opportunity:
This program is designed to provide between $500-$5,000 to assist farmers in New England with financial barriers to land access, expanding onto new land, and farm succession planning. The goal of NEFMP is to fund farmers in two primary categories: professional services and infrastructure costs related to assuring agricultural land is in production.
Because we have such a wealth of service providers and advisors in New England, we are requiring that all applicants have a brief letter of support from a provider to validate how this funding will support the farmer in addressing their specific barriers. We see this as a great way to get more farmers in New England connected with this extensive network and support system.
The American Farmland Trust will begin accepting applications March 1st, 2020 and will continue to do so on a rolling basis until all available funding is distributed.
We’ve designed the application process to be very simple:
- Here is a link to our website, (http://farmland.org/new-england-farmer-microgrants-program/) where farmers can find the grant guidelines, online application, and letter of support template, as well as a resource list we’ve assembled of regional service providers by category.
- Note: Farmers will need to upload their letter of support in order to complete their online application. Letter of support guidance is provided on the website.
- For farmers who prefer to print and mail, all documents are downloadable on the website.
The American Farmland Trust is thrilled to be able to offer tangible financial support to farmers in our region and we hope you can assist us in getting the word out to eligible farmers.
