Low-Density White Pine Management

Bear Brook State Park, Depot Road
Allenstown, NH 03275
United States

tour offered twice to accommodate crowd size

Eastern white pine is one of the most abundant and highest-valued species in New England. The health of the species and declining abundance of regeneration is a concern for landowners and forest managers. Join us September 16th or 17th for a field tour of Bear Brook State Park with experts discussing white pine management, forest health, and specifically low-density management.

This workshop offers an opportunity to hear from managing foresters from the NH Division of Forests & Lands and discuss their silvicultural trials in low-density white pine management. The low-density management discussion will also include perspectives from forest health experts, wildlife biologists, and others. Tom Addington from Addington Equipment, Inc. will be onsite to demonstrate his mini feller-buncher in a TSI and low-density harvest at Bear Brook.

The tour will be in the field visiting sites at Bear Brook including an overstory removal, TSI demonstration, crop tree release, and multiple entry low-density trial plots.

We will be completely in the field for the day so please be prepared—especially for ticks.

Presenters include William Guinn, Scott Rolfe, and Kyle Lombard from the NH Division of Forests & Lands, Ken Desmarais from the U.S. Forest Service, Matt Tarr from UNH Cooperative Extension, William Livingston from University of Maine, and Nicholas Brazee from University of Massachusetts.
