We are excited to welcome NH Tree Farmers to this beautifully managed forest in Boscawen!
Charlie Niebling is a well-respected forester who has spent the last 20 years working with this family on their 67-acre property to implement good forest management, and to demonstrate how a small woodlot can be conservatively managed for quality trees and timber, while generating significant revenue over time.
Guided tours will be offered by Charlie, family members, and colleagues throughout the morning.
Walk on the meticulously maintained woods roads that extend nearly three miles throughout the property. The roads are both people and tractor friendly.
In the last twenty years, nearly every acre of the managed portion of the forest (45 acres) has received some treatment. In addition, 22 acres of the property have been set aside for no-cut “old forest restoration reserves” and riparian buffers.
You will learn about the various silvicultural and wildlife habitat practices that have been used to care for and tend the forest, the history of the property, the family’s philosophy about their management, as well as anecdotes about the various management experiments the family has tried over the years.
Visit the family’s lean-to for some refreshments and enjoy the 50 mile views from Raleigh Hill – the highest point in the town of Boscawen.
The event is family-friendly with a kid’s scavenger hunt along with our traditional pig roast barbeque lunch. Scavenger hunt winners will receive prizes.
