Ice Fishing Introductory Session
WHAT IS IT?
Ice fishing is a recreational activity the whole family can enjoy! This introductory course will cover using a tip up and other ice fishing equipment, attaching your bait, using an auger, ice safety, fish identification, rules and regulations.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
The program is designed for youth 8 years & older to experience a day on the ice. Parents who attend as spectators are FREE. Youth 15 and under fish for FREE. (Please note that participating parents and youth 16 and over will need a fishing license.) Prizes awarded for the longest Perch, longest Pickerel, and longest “Other” fish.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
You will want to dress warmly, wear boots and bring snacks and a drink. You should bring your own folding lawn chair to sit in. A blanket and toe warmers are optional.
Elkins Fish and Game will will provide tip ups, bait, and help drill the holes in the ice. There will be a portable warming shelter along with a hot cocoa station and an ice side hotdog picnic lunch social, complements of Sullivan County 4-H.

The 4-H section of this event is FREE to youth 15 and under and what they catch can be entered in the fishing tournament. Visit the Elkins Fish and Game web site for full details: www.elkinsfishandgame.net - For those 16 and over who choose to pay and enter the Fishing-Down-Under tournament, know this is a charity event and all proceeds will be used to help those who are in financial difficulty.
Elkins Fish and Game will check and assure the safety of the ice. If the ice is unsafe, the trip will be cancelled! We may change the location if they find a suitable, safe, alternative frozen waterbody.
PARTICIPANTS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT IF UNDER AGE 14!
