STEM Connection Series: An In-Depth Look at Micro-Structure and Microbiome of Permafrost Soil

Speaker: Nathan Blais and Joy O'Brien

Rising global temperatures are causing permafrost (frozen soil located in Arctic regions) to thaw, which releases green-house gases into the atmosphere. In this Zoom talk we are diving into the soils of the arctic and exploring the microbial communities there to better understand how permafrost will respond to increased thawing.

STEM Connection Series brings together scientists, engineers, teachers, informal educators, and volunteers to learn about interesting, timely topics related to STEM for the purpose of motivating educators to inquire, explore, and share new information with students. Topics range from implications of climate change on winter economies to analyzing personal genetic testing results from popular online services like 23andMe.
