New Hampshire has a diverse agricultural industry, and it can be seen even within our own Merrimack County! Join 4-H families for this fun outing to see all the different aspects of the industry close to home! Participants will board a bus, starting at the Merrimack County Extension office and travel to three different farms throughout the day. Lunch will be included, and the bus will return to the Merrimack County Extension Office at the end of the day.

Cost: $10 per person - adults & youth. Payment can be made out to "UNH Cooperative Extension" and mailed to the Merrimack County 4-H Office at 315 Daniel Webster Hwy. Boscawen, NH 03303. (A fee is charged for this Extension program to cover costs. A limited number of scholarships are available to individuals unable to pay.)

Register: Open to youth 8 & older. Sign up by June 6 through 4-HOnline (registration limit of 45 people total, adults included).

Tentative Schedule:

  • 7:45am: Arrive and check-in at Merrimack County Extension Office
  • 8:00am: Depart for Farm #1
  • 8:15am - 9:45am: Arrive and tour Apple Hill Farm

Apple Hill Farm is located a few short miles of interstate 93. Their most popular commodity is apples, but the farm also grows and sells pick-your-own berries and sells many local ingredients in their farm stores and farmers markets. They partner often with UNH Cooperative Extension to run research trials and are always looking to utilize new technology on their farm. This stop will include a wagon ride around the orchard and learning about how the farm takes advantage of every season.

  • 9:50am: Depart Apple Hill Farm and travel to Rossview Farm
  • 10:05am - 11:30am: Arrive at Rossview Farm and take a tour 

Located on the outskirts of Hopkinton, Rossview Farm has an array of agricultural commodities to offer. The farm takes advantage of every season and grows strawberries, blueberries pumpkins, Christmas trees, harvests firewood, and makes maple syrup. They proudly use #stillfarming to show their resiliency in the agricultural community. Tour participants will get to see how time management and farming coincide to run a successful agricultural entity and witness the beautiful views of Rossview Farm.

  • 11:35am: Depart Rossview Farm and travel to Contoocook Creamery
  • 11:50 am-2:00 pm: Arrive at Contoocook Creamery, tour, and eat lunch

Contoocook Creamery at Bohanan Farm is one of New Hampshire’s family dairy farms. This hardworking family has come from generations of 4-H and strive to do their part for the dairy industry and advocate for agriculture. The farm milks 200 head of dairy cattle and turns their product into delicious Contoocook Creamery products like milk, cheese and butter. They’re also local celebrities as their farm was featured on the History Chanel’s TV Show “The American Farm”. At this stop, participants will tour the farm to see all the animals and tour the milk plant to see where all the magic happens.

  • 2:05pm: Depart Contoocook Creamery and travel
  • 2:15pm - 3:30pm: Arrive and tour Yankee Farmer’s Market

Located in Warner, Yankee Farmer’s Market puts their own unique twist on the NH agriculture industry. Focused on rebuilding small farms and providing a fresh and local product, this farm is home to 50 Buffalo. The meat is sold to the greater Warner area but also across the United States. The farm is also home to Scottish Highland cattle and market hogs. They even sell live buffalo to other farmers who want to diversify their operations. This stop will be one to remember!

  • 3:30pm: Depart Yankee Farmer’s Market and travel
  • 4:00pm: Arrive at Merrimack County Extension Office
