About the Forest Health Webinar Series

This webinar series is designed to give you a modern look at the most damaging forest pests and pathogens causing harm to our NH landscape today.  Weekly presentations by specialists working in the field will give updates and suggestions for control and management of these forest pests. Presentations will be followed by an interactive question and answer session to address concerns offered by the audience. The webinar series is organized by the NH Division of Forests and Lands and UNH Extension.  The weekly host will be Steve Roberge, Extension Forestry Specialist.

Webinars will be held on Zoom, Wednesdays from 3:00pm – 4:00pm. Each week will offer SAF Category 1 - 1.0 CFEs.  Registration is required. To register, please click on the event you are interested in attending below. 

 

July 22nd | The Emerald Ash Borer

Join Dr. Nate Siegert, Entomologist, U.S. Forest Service, Bill Davidson, Forest Health Specialist, NH Division of Forests and Lands, and Morgan Dube, Entomologist, NH Division of Plant Industry for a one hour update on the Emerald Ash Borer infestation in NH, the biocontrol program, current best management strategies, research updates and Federal regulations.  SAF Category 1 - 1.0 CFEs

July 29th | Softwood Pests

Join Kyle Lombard, Forest Health Program Coordinator, NH Division of Forests and Lands, Jen Weimer, Forest Health Specialist, NH Division of Forests and Lands, and Dr. Cameron MacIntyre, Forest Pathologist, U.S. Forest Service for presentations related to the management of white pine needle damage, caliciopsis pinea, hemlock woolly adelgid and elongate hemlock scale. August 5th | Defoliators and Other Hardwood Pests

Join Kyle Lombard, Forest Health Program Coordinator, NH Division of Forests and Lands, for a look at pests causing problems for our hardwood forest.  What is the difference between Forest Tent Caterpillar, Eastern Tent Caterpillar, and Fall webworm?  What is the history of Browntail moth in NH and is it coming back?  What is the latest on Beech Bark Disease and the initiative to use herbicides to control sprouting? August 12th | Root and Stem Rots

Join Dr. Nick Brazee, Pathologist with UMass Extension, and Dr. Isabel Munck, Forest Pathologist with the U.S. Forest Service, to discuss red rot in pine, chaga on birch, brown cubical rot in pine, armillaria root rot, and current research into oak decay. SAF Category 1 - 1.0 CFEs

August 19th | “What is This?”

Dode Gladders, UNH Extension Forester in Sullivan County, will deliver a “virtually hands-on” session covering many of the insects and diseases you walk by in the woods and say, “what is that?” Dode will cover many of the “odds and ends” forest pests like hemlock borer, pine bark adelgid, leaf galls, and much more. An emphasis will be placed on field identification with multiple diagnostic photos included for each pest. SAF Category 1 - 1.0 CFEs

August 26th | Emerging Pests

Join Piera Siegert, State Entomologist, NH Department of Agriculture, Markets and Food, Kyle Lombard, NH Division of Forests and Lands, and Dr. Isabel Munck, Forest Pathologist, U.S. Forest Service to discuss pests and pathogens causing problems in forests throughout the North and East and will likely be found in NH in coming years.  Highlighted issues will include oak wilt, beech leaf disease nematodes, and spotted lanternfly. SAF Category 1 - 1.0 CFEs

September 2nd | Spruce/Fir Issues of the North

Join Kyle Lombard, Forest Entomologist, NH Division of Forests and Lands, Forest Health Program Coordinator, NH Division of Forests and Lands, and Allison Kanoti, State Entomologist, Maine Forest Service – Division of Forest Health & Monitoring, for a discussion of forest health issues facing Spruce/Fir forests in the North Country.  Kyle with present balsam woolly adelgid and its impact to fir in NH, and Allison will cover spruce budworm and the current expectations for outbreak.
