23rd Annual Black Fly Breakfast
Join us for a forest markets update and presentations on mass timber from WoodWorks’ Senior Technical Director of Tall Wood, Ricky McLain and Dr. Peggi Clouston, Professor of Wood Mechanics and Timber Engineering at UMass Amherst.
We will begin with an introduction from New Hampshire’s State Forester, Patrick Hackley, followed by observations and expectations from forest products industry experts representing low grade markets, logs, lumber and secondary forest products.
After the market update, Ricky McLain will provide an overview of mass timber followed by Dr. Clouston who will highlight a flagship mass timber building in Massachusetts—the John W. Olver Design Building. She will tell the story of how the building came to be and how it spurred her recent research into cross-laminated timber panels made from Eastern Hemlock and Eastern White Pine grown in Southern New England.
Registration is required.
This program is co-sponsored by NH Division of Forests and Lands, NH Timberland Owners Association, NH Sustainable Forestry Initiative State Implementation Committee, and UNH Cooperative Extension. Support is provided by the USDA Forest Service.
