Hands-on Melon Grafting Workshop
Learn the steps to success for grafting melon seedlings
UNH Alumni Janel L. Martin will demonstrate the best way to graft melon seedlings and the steps to finish with strong, healthy plants ready to produce a high quality melon. Each participant will have the chance to work through the process along with Janel and finish a few melon seedlings of their own. You will learn how to create a healing chamber, the grafting process, pitfalls to avoid, and where to get supplies.
Why you should attend
Grafted melons have shown resistance to sudden wilt, produce significantly higher yields, and still maintain the quality that your customers have come to expect. If you do not already grow melons, or have tried only to have them suddenly wilt in your fields, then this workshop is for you.
About the Presenter
Janel L. Martin recently received her Master’s Degree under the guidance of Dr. Brent Loy, a world renowned melon and pumpkin breeder, studying how grafted melons might benefit New England growers by reducing sudden wilt. The results were outstanding and now she wants to pass on the tips and tricks she learned for creating healthy and vigorous grafted seedlings.
