Train as a STEM Docent volunteer to and engage NH youth in multi-day lessons in classrooms or out-of-school-time programs (ages 14-18).

Already work in the classroom? Become trained to integrate this engaging STEM curriculum in your classroom and join a statewide network of STEM Docents. PD hours and CEU documentation available.

Building Effective Collaboration: The Collective Impact Model

This workshop will explore the principles of Community Collaboration and Coalition building and explore how collaborative work can be strengthened. The Collective Impact Model will be reviewed and participants given the opportunity to apply Collective Impact principles and strategies to their work. Participants will:

  • Understand the level of collaboration and situations in which each level might be appropriate.
  • Identify strategies to both develop new collaborative relationships and strengthen existing ones.
  • Understand the collective impact model and when and why it is used in communities.
  • Apply the collective impact framework to real world situations and explore how using the collective impact framework might benefit the community in which it is applied.

ServSafe Food Managers Certification Course and Exam

ServSafe® is a nationally recognized food safety certification program of the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF). This one-day course provides the latest science-based information on food safety and best practices in the industry.

 

Participants will learn how foodborne bacteria contaminate food and the safest way to receive, store, prepare, cook and serve food for their customers.

 

Participants are expected to study the ServSafe Manager coursebook prior to class. At the end of the course, the national ServSafe certification exam will be administered. Participants passing the exam with a grade of 75% or higher will receive ServSafe® Food Safety Certification from NRAEF. Certification is valid for five years.

 

Instructor: Mary Saucier Choate, Field Specialist, Food Safety.

 

Registration is required at least 2 weeks prior to the start of class to allow time to receive and study the ServSafe book.

Resilience is the ability to experience life's everyday challenges or even significant hardships and find ways to bounce back and thrive. Through caring relationships with young children, early childhood professionals have an important role in promoting resiliency.

This workshop will feature strategies to support a child's ability to bounce back from difficult challenges. Strategies for building such resiliency skills as:

  • Self-control
  • Problem solving
  • Acting with confidence
  • Taking responsibility
  • Having a positive outlook

Through everyday interactions and relationships.

 

This will be a 2 hour workshop presented in three locations:

Using effective collaboration to support young children's resilience - Part 2

As early childhood professionals, we collaborate with coworkers and many others to provide quality education and care. Getting along with coworkers and other collaborators is not always easy. The quality of our relationships with coworkers affects our relationships with the children and families we serve. This workshop will feature strategies and skills for communicating effectively with others, getting on the same page, managing conflict, through everyday interactions with coworkers and collaborators.

 

This will be a 2 hour workshop presented in three locations:

Making the most of everyday interactions with families - Part 3

Resilience is the ability to experience life's everyday challenges or even significant hardships and find ways to bounce back and thrive. Early Childhood professionals are in the position to help families support young children's resilience. This workshop will focus on practical strategies for building close working relationships with families. Emphasis will be on developing skills to make the most our of those everyday encounters with families' pick-up, drop-off through thoughtful intentional interactions.

Safety Awareness in the Food Environment

Protect yourself and the people you feed! SAFE reviews safe food handling techniques, reminders of personal hygiene practices, prevention of cross-contamination, safe time & temperature controls, and receiving food donations.  SAFE workshops provide food safety training for new employees and refresher information for more experienced staff. The 2-hour workshop uses practical discussion and hands-on demonstrations to help participants apply safe food handling practices. SAFE participants receive fact sheets and a certificate of attendance will be provided.

To be held at Laconia School District Office, 39 Harvard Street, Laconia.

Who am I anyway? Helping Infants and Toddlers develop an understanding of themselves and others

This practical workshop will present a curriculum planning process, and strategies to help teachers support children's social emotional learning from birth to three years of age.

4-H Basics of Babysitting

This two-day 4-H Basics of Babysitting Course will be held on October 27 & 28, 2017 (Friday 4:00pm - 8:00pm & Saturday 9:00am - 4:00pm) in the UNH Cooperative Extension Conference Room.

Donna Lee, 4-H Program Manager, Jen West, HCMS Afterschool Program Director, and Lynne Butler, 4-H Leader and HCMS Nurse, will teach the basics of being a competent babysitter during this SPIN (special interest project).

All youth ages 12 to 18 are invited to attend.  Youth do not need to be a member of an existing 4-H club in order to participate, so mention this to your friends!
