Telling Your Story with Maps
Tuesday, 11/21/2017 (01:00 AM - 04:00 PM)

Have an interesting historical downtown that you want people to visit? Looking to engage people of a community to explore their town and provide their thoughts? Hoping to have your audience prepare for meeting by looking at maps/pictures/videos? Driven by Esri's ArcGIS Online, Story Maps are a great way to share your information and tell your story to a wide variety of stakeholders (no coding experience necessary!)

Activities focus on getting up and running with Story Maps, including how to create and configure the map to best communicate with your audience. We will also use a mobile app, Snap2Map, to build Story Maps in the field with a mobile device.

Structural Pest Control Training
Tuesday, 11/28/2017 (08:15 AM - 04:00 PM)

STRUCTURAL PEST CONTROL TRAINING

UNH Cooperative Extension will host an all-day Structural Pest Control Training for individuals in the field of Urban IPM. This course is being offered for the first time to address the continuing educational needs of the Urban IPM community and will be conducted by Urban IPM professionals. This event will present content on: Principals of Urban IPM, Current Topics in Pest Management, Pest Problems after Storms and Other Disasters, Rodent Management, and Bedbugs and Their Resurgence. Hands-on training is to be provided in an Insect Identification Lab, equipped with microscopes and hand lens, to help professionals identify key pests found in NH residences based on anatomical features.

Structural pest management is the control and management of pests in public and private environments. Commercial environments subject to pest management include insect control, in, on, or around any structure and adjacent area, public or private, and for the protection of stored, processed, or manufactured products. Some commercial accounts are considered especially sensitive, and include nursing homes, hospitals, and schools.

Pests in commercial accounts can be diverse, but in large part include ants, small and large flies, cockroaches, rodents, and a myriad of stored product pests to name a few. In New Hampshire, performance of commercial accounts is regulated by the New Hampshire Rules and Regulations pertaining to the F1 Category and the label guidelines of the product(s) of choice to control pests in commercial environments. In this workshop we will address various aspects of the biology and management of the key pest groups found in commercial accounts, and the New Hampshire Rules and Regulations in place for those working in this arena.

Rockingham County 4-H Maker Challenge: Mousetrap Powered Cars
Saturday, 12/09/2017 (09:00 AM - 02:00 PM)

Can you build a model car and power it with a mousetrap? How far can you make it go? Join other young engineers to design and build your own mousetrap powered car. Make design modifications to make it roll faster and farther and then test your car to see if your design modifications work. Then race your car in the 4-H Maker Challenge to see how it measures up against the cars of other young engineers.

We will be working with adult leaders and members on how to build and race your Mousetrap Powered Car. We will focus on building your car that can be powered by a mousetrap. We will have common materials to build your basic car frame and wheels. Finally you will attach your mousetrap to your car and try different ways to power the car.

For youth ages 8-12, we ask that an adult be available to assist with some of the science and build concepts.
