When used properly, mulch can retain moisture, increase soil temperature, suppress weeds, prevent diseases, add nutrients to your soil, and much more. But when used incorrectly, mulch can work against plant health and productivity. Mulches can be made from organic or synthetic materials, and there are unique considerations for each material, but there are also common principles and best practices that will make a significant difference for your gardens and landscape.
